Here’s a behind the curtain fact: paper is NO better than plastic. 🤷 A lifecycle analysis will show you that it usually ends up in landfill when it’s improperly disposed. ☠️🐠

Paper causes:
✖ de-fo-re-sta-tion; 🌲
(millions of acres of forest are cut each year in the name of our paper obsession); 🥺
✖ ecosystem degradation; 🐿️
✖ uses MORE energy & water to be produced; 💦
✖ can only be recycled around <6 times, after that, the fibers are too weak to hold together;
✖ cannot be recycled if stained with grease or food;
✖ it usually comes packaged in some sort of plastic anyway.
We can debate the details of which one is worse or we can simply choose sustainable packaging options. 💚

❀ there is no sludge of heavy metals from the additives & chemical printing inks to be sent to the landfill or even end up as harmful emissions in our air if it's incinerated.

WHAT'S IAMNOTPAPER MADE FROM?
Banana skinz & other things!
We've developed our I AM NOT PAPER to be made from anything & everything sustainable, natural, BUT NOT trees 🪵. Not man managed trees, not old growth, recycled wood, not even plantation timber. So, lots of love for our forests. ecosystems & the animal habitat they provide.
Our tech 📟 is called PlantPulp. Using agri by-products & fast growing plants E.g. wheat stems, reed, corn stover, sugarcane, husks & straw, textiles & cordage wastes. Fiber crops & wild plants tamed by woman-kind, such as kenaf, hemp, jute, bamboo & flax. We are constantly playing with more raw material sources.
We've tweaked the process a little, but totally changed what materials goes into it...
Food safe of course, the PlantPulp substrates are put through vigorous heat processing treatments and so there is no live matter, gluten or protein active. Food & allergens safe :)
Before 🦄 I AM NOT PAPER, modern paper pulp came mainly from tree wood & plastic from fossil fuels. Devastating to 🌳 forests, 🐟 oceans, ecosystems, 🦍🐝 habitat & landfill. But, it doesn't have to be like that. NO MORE, NOT EVER :)

Similar tech when it comes to liquid proofing (sealing liquid like coffee, sauces or oils etc). We've played with this a lot! & here we need a barrier layer to prevent leaks, seepage at boiling temps & to keep food & drink taste unchanged.
We work with some great material 🔬 specialists & have developed our own proprietary PlantPulp veg/plant starch & water based linings. Made without any petrochemical mixes or fillers that actually work with our biodegrading & true composting goals, but also functional. (That means clean shirts) 👚!& Oat milk 🥛 leak proof!
FYI There is a massive challenge in getting the balance right between fit for purpose & disposal composting times. We're very happy with the results so far & always tweaking + twerking to get our product better each batch. Test 'n' see :)

I AM NOT PAPER is made from PlantPulp, not impermeable wood chips (like conventional paper is), and we make 100% sure any liquid barrier lining is also made from PlanPulp tech; it contains NO petro-chems / plastic mixes whatsoever. So when disposed of in a natural aerobic environment, buried in a backyard or landfill soil, or at home with other 🥗 food scraps & compost material, or commercial compost facilities, it will naturally and totally biodegrade & compost back to nature.
HOW LONG DOES IS TAKE TO FULLY COMPOST EXACTLY?
Our view is that there’s a lot of confusion about compostability out there. The white 🥼coats told us compostability timeframes depends on the ‘myriad’ of possible conditions of the environment at the time (... something like that). Honestly, we just know our products aren’t consumed in a lab. They’re enjoyed and then disposed of, in the many different conditions all over this beautiful country!
So here it gets a li'l technical. And we need to be honest. There is no exact time frame. It’s a natural product going into a natural environment and there are many determining factors, such as: the soil condition (is it constantly fertilized, is it maintained), quality of active compost, temperature, 🌦 water (rain), sunshine. Nonetheless, rest assured we’ve tested & tested this & I AM NOT PAPER PlantPulp won't hang around forever & most of the time is fully gone in around 8 weeks.
So apart from the right raw materials, nature’s elements play a huge factor, maintaining 🍃 active compost is the best approach. For optimal & timely results, keep the soil alive.

@I AM NOT PAPER we work real hard in designing & producing the most planet friendly products we can, (we've recently redeveloped our materials & linings to be even more future proof!) Having our cups, lids and lining all certified is a great result. But for us, it’s not the end result, rather the starting point for us to launch from. 😜
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS RECYCLABLE? IS RECYCLING A GOOD OPTION?
Recycle 'em, Should we?
In essence, yes they are becuase of our pulp & lining innovations, and pls always try to recycle & reuse :) But... with all food & beverage items, it’s wise to thoroughly rinse the items, before placing them in the recycling bin. Most contaminated products (with oils, milks, food scraps etc) will get rejected in the sorting process. Although our products are recyclable, there are a few things to consider:
Recycling can potentially be the answer to all of our material ills, & in some areas it still is (like glass & metals & pure clean paper).
Unfortunately, when it comes to 'normal' paper & plastic coated food & heavy ink' based products... not so much, as the process involves:
* Enough 🔌 energy involved to wake 🧟♂️ Frankenstein (((
* 💦 Excessive amounts of water.
* Detergents, Bleaches, 🧪 Chemicals.
* Diesel, & gas... high fuel inputs.
* Transportation footprints.
* Public 🤷🏽 misuse.
* Strain on recycling plants due to oversupply, rejection, sorting and contamination issues... (ends up in landfill).
So plz rinse before binning and check with your local recycling plant for up to date information and changes to their policies, and please consider all of this, and make an informed decision on recycling.
SO... WHAT BIN SHOULD I CHUCK U IN?
So, you’re a love em’ & leave em’ type hey? Can you reuse?
Some of our heroes are getting creative, & are reusing our products. Here’s a clever example & shout out to; @sprout.manly
Others are rinsing out their cups after first use, & refilling coffee & water throughout the day, (we do too) prior to disposal.
So our first choice is to try limit single use & reuse & get creative wherever possible (there’s some clever ducks out there!)
Second is to bury me in the ground/home compost bin. 👩🏽🌾 If you're out of space, try find a commercial compost facility.
Thirdly, we have recycling bins; provided that you have washed the product thoroughly (helps reduce contamination & sorting issues) & checked with your local recycling plant on their current policies).
Last place, simply dispose of our products in your ordinary rubbish bin, which will end up in landfill. They’re compostable & will naturally biodegrade over time.

Apart from our distributors BFFs, we went automated & hooked up with Aus Post / Star Track to pick & deliver. Which means you get your goods in 1-4 days. Usually shipped the next day if your order is placed before ⏰ 11:30 am.
Great for you guys & great for us not having to listen to some of our teams whinging waking up at 5 am...

CAN I GET YOUR PRODUCT IN SUPER WHITE?
LOL, if this was 1984, then we’d probably offer it... but then again you’d probably have a 👩🏼🦱 perm & leg warmers on, I’d have a mullet, swing past in my Datsun, pick you up & we’d go to an aerobics 🤸♀️ class together.
Fortunately, we consumers are highly educated and understand white = bleach, and bleach is bad. It’s bad for the environment, & bad for your brand. Bleach screams 'shiny brand recognition is more important than the environment', and the modern consumer rejects this concept.
Our PlantPulp contains no 🧼 bleach, the colour you see is what you get when you keep it naturally unprocessed. It looks cool, & consumers totally get it !
